REALTORS® Serve Up Dinner at Fisher House

Bob JonesGeneral News, news release, Press Release

Dayton REALTORS® put their culinary expertise to good use on February 21, preparing a dinner for veteran families staying at the Fisher House at the VA Hospital in Dayton. It’s just one of the ways REALTORS® give back to the community.

“Community service is a core value of REALTORS®,” stated Jan Leverett, president of Dayton REALTORS®. “REALTORS® have been working across this country for more than 100 years to build communities and advocate for private property rights, and none of that would be possible without the brave men and women who defend our freedom. So to prepare a nice home-cooked meal to veterans and their families while they're being treated at the hospital is such an honor and is a small token of our appreciation."

Fisher House Foundation is best known for a network of comfort homes where military and veterans’ families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving treatment.  They have up to 21 suites, with private bedrooms and baths. Families share a common kitchen, laundry facilities, a warm dining room and an inviting living room.  Fisher House Foundation ensures that there is never a lodging fee.  Since inception, the program has saved military and veterans’ families an estimated $400+ million in out of pocket costs for lodging and transportation.

So what was on the menu for families staying at the Fisher House? It was a made-from-scratch dinner of chicken and dumplings, tossed salad, and cupcakes for dessert!

As members of the community, REALTORS® take part in a number of community initiatives throughout the year, from volunteering with Rebuilding Together to rehab homes, to donating money and materials to Dayton area schools and credit counseling services. The Dayton REALTORS® Foundation provides scholarships to dependents of REALTORS®, and their annual holiday reception serves as Dayton’s largest source of donated toys to the Marine Corp’s Toys for Tots.
