The Facts About the American Clean Energy & Security Act
Many REALTORS® and consumers are concerned about how the new Climate Bill will affect real estate transactions in the future. One important item to note is that it is not law yet, because the Senate has yet to finalize its version of the bill.
The bill (H.R. 2454) passed the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 219-212, with area Reps. Steve Austria, Mike Turner, and John Boehner voting "No".
Due to hard work performed by the NAR, REALTORS® succeeded in making a number of positive changes to the bill. The bill:
- Does not create a federal energy audit requirement for real property
- Exempts existing homes and buildings from any federal guidelines for new construction energy efficiency information labels
- Prohibits the implementation of any labeling during a sales transaction
