AN INVESTMENT IN YOUR FUTURE
At dues billing time, and again at various times throughout the year, members receive requests to contribute to RPAC. Many members make the investment, but there are also many who do not, because they just aren't familiar with what RPAC is and what it does. So what is it?
The REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC) gives REALTORS® a voice on issues that affect the real estate industry. RPAC's mission is to help develop, advance and implement local, state, and federal legislative objectives that affect the real estate business and the ownership of operation of real estate. RPAC supports pro-REALTOR® candidates running for office, regardless of party affiliation.
RPAC played a critical role in shaping the current $8000 first-time homebuyer tax credit; it pushed successfully to keep banks out of the real estate business; it helped to fight the Montgomery County transfer fee from rising to its maximum amount. All these things help save consumers money, encourage home ownership, and protect the real estate business.
If you have not yet contributed to RPAC, make your pledge online today by visiting the RPAC section of dabr.com.
For an entertaining way to make your investment in RPAC register now for the upcoming Wine Tasting on Monday, June 22nd. Not only will you help the REALTOR® cause, but you'll have a wonderful evening of food, drink, and socializing - for only $45 per person. Register for the event here.

STEVE MIKULA ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE
Applications
are now being accepted for three $1000.00 college scholarships to dependents of REALTOR® members. A dependent includes anyone considered to be a dependent on the member’s federal tax return and who is 25 years of age or younger. Members must have at least five years of continuous board membership.
A professional review panel composed of local college and university officials, independent from the Dayton Area Board, shall make the selection of the scholarship recipients. The panel bases their selections on scholastic achievement, character, leadership, service, citizenship, and promise of professional growth and development. Applicants are required to complete and submit the Steve Mikula REALTOR® Dependent Scholarship Application. A dependent of a DABR member may obtain this application from the Board office, download it here, or find it online at www.dabr.com/education under the "Financial Assistance" menu. Then click on Steve Mikula REALTOR® Dependent Scholarship. Applications must be received at the board by May 22 at 5pm. |

Harry Vearn, 2009 President of The Dayton Area Board of REALTORS®
The Dayton Area Board of REALTORS® has been serving the Miami Valley for 100 years now, and the community has come a long way. Through devasting floods and tornadoes, from economic downturns to boom times, REALTORS® have been there to help families step in to that perfect home. It's truly something to celebrate.
So what are we doing to mark this milestone? The board has already done a few things, and we've got more in store this year. The celebration kicked off with the unveiling of our new logo, a great symbol of our current state as well as a nod to the expectations of the future. We printed a special commemorative insert in the Dayton Daily News which highlighted all the things REALTORS® have done - and continue to do - for the area. (If you missed it, stop by the board office and pick up a copy, or follow this link to view it online.) That was followed by the Ultimate Open House Event, created to help spur sales activity in this challenging market. In July, we'll hold the Fun Fest, a centennial celebration combining our picnic and golf outing into one fun-filled day (see the story on this page for details). Finally, as a way to bring more prominence to REALTOR® organization, this summer the board will hold a reception for members and the media as we light up the bright new signs that will adorn either side of the building. We'll pass along those details as the installation of the signs are completed.
While not a complete list, these are some of the things the board is doing to spread the word about the value of using a REALTOR® while celebrating the 100 year mark. Here's to another one hundred!
