What Does the Dayton Area Board of REALTORS® Do?

The Dayton Area Board of REALTORS®, an association of real estate professionals, is one of the nearly 1,800 real estate boards in the country which make up the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR), the largest trade association in the world.

Established in 1909, the Dayton Area Board of REALTORS® has over 2,800 members dedicated to serving the needs of both home sellers and buyers in the Miami Valley.

Like any other trade association, the board's basic purpose is to serve the needs of its members. But unlike other organizations, the board must also expand its scope to include services to the thousands of homeowners in the area and to the many communities in which they live.

The Dayton Area Board of REALTORS® serves its members as a resource for continuing education, a wide range of committee activities, the Multiple Listing Service, social events, products and publications.

Through a nationally recognized continuing education program, the board encourages its members to strive for the highest degree of professionalism in the industry. The board, in cooperation with Sinclair Community College, also offers pre-licensing courses for those interested in entering the real estate profession.

Over 19 different committees, composed of REALTORS® who volunteer their services, meet the needs of members in areas such as community revitalization, equal opportunity and professional standards.

To facilitate home sales, the board operates a highly efficient Multiple Listing Service (MLS) with which a home can be effectively marketed to REALTORS® in Montgomery, Greene, Preble, and Warren Counties and beyond.

In addition to providing education and marketing tools to its members, the board also enforces the Code of Ethics of the National Association of REALTORS® which each REALTOR® subscribes to when joining the association.

Another area in which the board serves the public is through constant advocacy of private property rights. Through political action and legislative committees, board members work behind the scenes to protect the rights of all homeowners from excessive taxes, inequitable rules and unfair legislation on all levels from local to state to federal.

Taking an active role in the community is a longstanding tradition of the board. Members support such projects such as Toys For Tots, the United Way and the Muse Machine. As part of the "Partners in Education" program, the board has teamed up with Ruskin Elementary school to raise thousands of dollars to support the students in Dayton Public Schools.

The Dayton Area Board of REALTORS® exists to help people realize the American Dream of owning a home. That's why the board is The Voice for Real Estate in the Dayton Area.
